Leading the Change: Women Uplifting, Defending, Transforming and Shaping a Sustainable Future.
Each year, the National Women’s History Alliance (NWHA) presents a theme for the month. For 2026, the theme is: “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future.” This theme honors the women who have and are reimagining and rebuilding systems to ensure long-term sustainability – environmental, economic, educational and societal. We have gone a step further and added personal sustainability.
March is also Social Work Month and as a Social Worker, it is so important for me to embody the tenets of the social work profession. The primary U.S. social work theme is “Social Workers: Uplift. Defend. Transform.”, highlighting our role in enhancing well-being, supporting vulnerable populations, and advancing social justice. Internationally, the World Social Work Day theme is “Co-Building Hope and Harmony: A Harambee Call to Unite a Divided Society.”
Given the challenges we face within our society, it is necessary to create space to engage in dialogues that are supportive and encouraging in nature. Sisters, we invite you to the table.
The combined theme for us this year is a charge for the sisterhood to LEAD THE CHANGE. However, before we can lead, it is necessary to do the work for that desired change to be sustainable. We also know that sustainability is better when the community is strong and healthy.
Joining us at the table this year is our speaker, Dr. Jasmine Warren, a clinical social worker, educator and clinician-policy leader who will challenge us to build that Sustainable future as Women Uplifting, Defending, Transforming and Shaping such a future.
We look forward to seeing you on March 14, 2026!
