Description

Calendula Salve

Calendula’s one of those old-school remedies that actually holds up — the flower’s been used for irritated skin for generations, and it’s not hard to see why once you’ve tried it. This salve infuses calendula into olive oil, then sets it with beeswax and candelilla wax into a balm that’s thick enough to actually stay put on cracked knuckles or a rough elbow.

It’s built for problem spots more than all-over use — hands after a long day of washing dishes, cuticles in the middle of winter, elbows that lotion just bounces off of. Massage a small amount in daily, wherever skin’s asking for it. A little goes further than you’d think; this isn’t a lotion you slather on by the handful.

Comes in a 2oz size, small enough to live in a bag, a desk drawer, or right by the kitchen sink where dry hands actually happen.

Best Skin Types

  • Sensitive or easily irritated skin — calendula’s anti-inflammatory properties make it a gentle pick for reactive skin.
  • Oily and acne-prone skin — despite the rich texture, calendula has a long history of use on blemish-prone skin too.
  • Dry patches on hands, elbows, or cuticles — this is really where the salve shines, more spot-treatment than daily lotion.
  • Keep in mind: it contains a lavender essential oil blend, so if you’re avoiding added fragrance entirely, patch test first.

FAQs

Is this the same as a hand cream? Not quite — it’s thicker and oil-based rather than water-based, so it sits more like a balm than a traditional cream. Great for problem spots, less ideal if you want something that absorbs instantly for all-over use.

Can I use it on my face? Some people do use calendula salve on small dry patches on the face, but because it’s a rich, oil-heavy formula, it’s worth patch testing first if your facial skin runs oily or breakout-prone.

How long does a 2oz tin last? Depends how often you’re using it, but since it’s meant for targeted spots rather than full-body application, a tin typically lasts a couple of months with regular use.

Does it have a strong scent? It carries a light lavender note from the essential oil blend — subtle, not overpowering.

Is it safe for cracked or broken skin? Calendula is traditionally used on minor skin irritation, but if skin is significantly broken, cracked to the point of bleeding, or shows signs of infection, check with a doctor before applying anything, including this.
